UN Security Council Condemns Terrorist Attack in Karachi, Expresses Solidarity with Victims

The UNSC expressed their solidarity and deepest condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for the prompt recovery of the injured, and extended their sympathies to the governments of China and Pakistan.

On Wensday, the UN Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the atrocious and cowardly terrorist attack near Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, southern Pakistan.

They also expressed their solidarity and deepest condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for the prompt recovery of the injured, and extended their sympathies to the governments of China and Pakistan.

The members of the Council condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, underlining the need for financiers, organizers, and perpetrators of these acts to take responsibility for their heinous actions. They declared that the continuation of such acts constitutes a threat to international peace and security.

“The members of the Security Council reiterated that all acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever, and by whomever they are committed,” the statement continued.

The communiqué stressed the need for all states to combat threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law.

It should be noted that, on Sunday night, a terrorist attack occurred in the port city of Karachi, southern Pakistan. The event resulted in the deaths of two Chinese citizens and several Pakistani citizens.
