UN Security Council Question Zionist attacks on a School in Gaza

The Israeli attack, which was not condemned by the US, brings the total number of casualties among UN employees to more than 220 since the beginning of the current Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people.

At the request of Algeria, the UN Security Council met this Friday to discuss the recent Zionist airstrikes against a Jaouni school in the Nuseirat area of Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people, including women, children and six staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA).

According to the information, this attack brings the total number of casualties among UN agency employees to more than 220 since the beginning of the current Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people.

Algeria’s initiative to hold this meeting comes amid widespread international condemnation of these attacks. Numerous countries and organizations promptly denounced the deliberate attack by Tel Aviv on shelters, which constitutes a war crime under international law, because humanitarian infrastructure and personnel enjoy special protection under international humanitarian law.

Algeria stressed during the UN Security Council meeting that humanitarian infrastructures and workers enjoy special protection under international humanitarian law, and that to act against them constitutes a war crime under international law.

He noted that the occupation army is deliberately targeting humanitarian workers, including UNRWA personnel, who have already lost more than 220 of their staff.

Algeria also stressed the imperative to end the current impunity and called on the Security Council to take action in response to this tragedy.

The spokesman for the UN secretary general issued a statement condemning the killing of these innocents and calling for an exhaustive and independent investigation to ensure accountability. The Secretary-General also reiterated his demand for an immediate ceasefire.

The members of the Security Council, including the United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, Guyana, South Korea, Switzerland, Sierra Leone, Malta and Slovenia, stressed that the gravity of the situation required urgent action by the Council.

The Council reaffirmed the importance of fully implementing the resolutions on the protection of humanitarian workers, including Resolution 2730, stressing the urgent need to enforce the Security Council resolutions addressing the situation in Gaza, In particular, Resolution 2735.
