As the Slovenian Council President has announced in a statement, the meeting will be informative.

“The presidency intends to schedule the briefing on the situation in Lebanon for tomorrow, Wednesday 25 September, at 6 pm (14.00 GMT), and the secretary general will report to the Council,” the document specifies.

Since last week, Israel has intensified attacks on Lebanon, which in the last 24 hours has caused the number of dead to 558 and wounded to 1,835, according to reports by the acting Lebanese Minister of Health, Firas Abyad.

The Lebanese authorities also report that Israeli air attacks continue to strike south and east of Lebanon, while hundreds of Lebanese citizens have moved from their villages to Syria, or sought refuge on public beaches or seafront promenades.

On the day, the Iranian government spokesman, Fatemeh Mohajerani, called for an “immediate intervention” of the UN Security Council to prevent a repeat of the situation in the Gaza Strip in Lebanon.

“We are concerned about the repetition of disasters like those that occurred in Gaza and Rafah, and therefore we demand the immediate intervention of the UN Security Council,” he said.

Similarly, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, condemned the attacks by Israel on his social network X.

“The crimes of Israel, permitted by the U.S. are so clear that the world can see them. This brutal and criminal contempt for human life cannot be allowed to continue”, he stressed.

Israel’s attacks on Monday are estimated to have been the deadliest since 2006 in Lebanon, and in response, the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, has fired rockets at Israeli military and industrial targets.
