“As the impact of multiple crises intensifies, it is time to anticipate events and protect ourselves from emerging new challenges,”
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) called this Monday in a new report political actions and the integration of numerous voices to avoid a global “policrisis”, with problems such as the climate crisis, the loss of nature and biodiversity, and pollution.

“As the impact of multiple crises intensifies, it is time to anticipate events and protect ourselves from emerging new challenges,” said the UNEP Executive Director in her new report ‘Navigating New Horizons’, Inger Andersen, an institution based in Nairobi.
“The rapid pace of change, uncertainty and technological advances we are witnessing, against a backdrop of geopolitical turbulence, means that any country can be diverted from its course more easily and frequently,” he added.
Thus, UNEP experts used a new trend forecasting system which found that, in this new global context, the speed of change is “surprising”.
The latter phenomenon has, in fact, already caused an outbreak of anthrax in Siberia, a disease caused by bacteria in animals that can be transmitted to humans by direct or indirect contact.
Another issue highlighted by the UN body is the increase and evolution of violence and armed conflicts, which “cause the degradation of ecosystems, which affects vulnerable populations”.
“The key to a better future is to focus on intergenerational equity and a new social contract that reinforces the shared values that unite us instead of dividing us,” he added.
Thus, the agency called for the adoption of “agile and thoughtful governance” and a “participatory, multilateral and cooperative” future that integrates “the voices of traditionally marginalized groups, such as women, youth, local communities and indigenous peoples”.
