In this regard, the secretary general of the entity, António Guterres, suggested that “we must not fail to fulfill our promise to end poverty and protect the planet”.

“In a world of unprecedented wealth, knowledge and technology, the denial of basic needs to so many people is outrageous and inexcusable,” Guterres said.

The report indicated that half of the targets are paralysed and more than a third are falling back.

Without massive investment and large-scale action, achieving the SDGs, the blueprint for a more resilient and prosperous world and the road map to emerging from today’s global crises, will remain elusive”.

The report revealed advances in renewable energy, the increased representation of girls and women at all levels of education, Nearly widespread internet access has increased by 70 percent in eight years the spread of cell phones to 95 percent of the population or the successful fight against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Moreover, alarming indicators are accumulating: 60 per cent of nations suffer from abnormally high food prices; 55 per cent of countries have no rules against gender discrimination; 38 percent of children complete primary school without reading skills and unemployment is at historic highs five percent.
