The UK will suspend some 30 out of a total of 350 arms export licences to Israel because of the risk that they could be used to violate humanitarian law, British Foreign Minister David Lammy announced on Monday.

The measure is taken following a review of Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian law. UK assessment concludes there is a clear risk certain military exports to Israel might be used in violations of International Humanitarian Law.

The UK’s government specifies that its “robust export licensing criteria” states that it couldn’t allow “export licences if the items might be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of International Humanitarian Law.”

Suspended licences include, but are not limited to, components of military aircraft, helicopters and drones.

Instead, the UK have said that the measure will not change its long criticized support to Israel amid an armed occpuation that have already killed almost 40,000 Palestinians in eleven months.

The FM said the decision, which the British government will keep “under review”, will not have, he said, “a material impact on Israel’s security.”
