“In recent years, the United Nations has been inadequate in fulfilling its founding mission and is increasingly becoming a dysfunctional, cumbersome, and inert structure,” he said during his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Referring to the current situation in the Middle East, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye has no issue with Israeli civilians, with whom his nation shares historical and cultural ties that go back centuries.

“Our problem lies with Israel’s attacks. We always speak the truth and stand for what is just, even if it makes some uncomfortable,” the Turkish leader said, recalling that Israel’s attacks have turned Gaza into the largest cemetery of children and women in the world.

“What are you waiting for to stop the network of massacres dragging the entire region into war for political gain?” Erdogan asked the UN Security Council, stressing that Israel is not only occupying Palestinian land but is openly committing ethnic cleansing and genocide.

“We are against antisemitism. Likewise, we oppose Jews being attacked simply because of their faith,” he added and thanked all those who have shown their support for Palestine and take to the streets every week, especially university students.

“The establishment of an independent, sovereign, and geographically integrated Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, can no longer be postponed,” Erdogan emphasized.
