United States Announces New Sanctions on Countries Allies of Russia

Jake Sullivan stressed that China and other countries could be notified of new sanctions in the coming weeks.
The White House national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said this Friday that in the coming weeks, the United States (USA) would impose new sanctions on China and other countries for cooperating with Russia.

During the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado, Sullivan has stated that, over time, the White House has shown that its preparation “to tighten the screws and apply sanctions against specific entities and individuals, including in China, as well as in other countries, and that pattern will continue in the future”.
In that sense, he specified that other sanctions could be notified, depending on how the scenario evolves in the coming weeks.
On 23 February, coinciding with the second anniversary of the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, the US authorities announced new sanctions against more than 500 Russian targets, including officials, banks and companies, in order to damage the central financial capacity of the Eurasian country.
According to Washington, Russian officials have access to properties in the U.S. and some nations of the West, travel to them and do business, while punishing those who negotiate with these people.
For their part, companies are denied access to the U.S. market or open accounts in that nation. Similarly, the sanctions aim at limiting Russian exports and energy production, restricting revenues from mining and metals and limiting Russian defensive capabilities.
Similarly, 26 technology and spare equipment companies, as well as citizens of third countries such as China, Serbia, the United Arab Emirates and Germany, with business interests with Russian companies, were also affected by the US government.
However, these sanctions announced last February are a continuation of those of the US. and the European Union announced after the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, when the administration of US President Joe Biden announced the imposition of sanctions to isolate Russia from the international financial system.
Although the sanctions initially targeted Russian entities and individuals very close to Vladimir Putin, Washington soon sanctioned 10 companies and eight individuals from Belarus in retaliation against this country for supporting Russia.
