On Feb. 4, 1992, this South American nation changed when Hugo Chavez was able to send a message of hope to the people.
On Tuesday, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello reaffirmed the importance of unity among Venezuelans on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the civic-military uprising led by Commander Hugo Chavez on February 4, 1992.

“Dear brothers and sisters, the best tribute we can pay to our Commander Chavez is to remain united under any circumstances,” he said during a ceremony at the Mountain Barracks, where the mortal remains of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution rest.
“On February 4, 1992, our country changed when that humble yet resolute man emerged, a man who, in a single moment, was able to send a message of hope to the people. Even though a battle had been lost, the war was just beginning,” Cabello said.
“We rose up against imperialism because, at its core, it was imperialism that ruled here. All our natural resources had been handed over, our country was mortgaged, and we were headed toward the privatization of everything,” he added.
The Bolivarian minister pointed out that when both internal and external enemies realize that Venezuela has people with ‘dignity,’ they have no choice but to show respect.
“We do not kneel before anyone! Despite all the difficulties, we continue on this path. Coming here today recharges us with Chavez’s energy because he is there, and we can feel his strength… and we can feel his orders,” Cabello added.
On Monday, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) announced that thousands of people would march in Caracas today to commemorate the anniversary of the 1992 civic-military rebellion. On this day, the PSUV Congress will also propose its candidates for the April regional and parliamentary elections.
