UNRWA Highlights Erosion of Human Rights in Gaza on Human Rights Day

“The fundamental rights being stripped from the residents of Gaza are the same rights that are meant to protect all humanity. The situation in Gaza is a collective concern for us all,” UNRWA stated, underscoring the interconnectedness of human rights.

In a poignant statement released on Human Rights Day, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) expressed deep concern over the profound suffering experienced by the people of Gaza over the past year, emphasizing that this crisis has profoundly impacted global faith in human rights.

The agency articulated that “universal human rights serve as the strongest safeguard for a world where every individual can enjoy dignity, security, equality, and freedom.”

In a previous message shared on social media platform X, UNRWA highlighted that the rights to security, dignity, and freedom from violence and displacement—as well as access to essential needs such as food, water, sanitation, clothing, and housing—are not mere privileges but fundamental rights that have been systematically denied to Palestinians in Gaza.

The agency reiterated its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing that the time for action is now.
