Uruguay: Leftist Candidate Calls on Citizens for a Final Push Ahead of Runoff Election

On Sunday, the Broad Front (FA) candidate celebrated preliminary presidential election results with thousands of supporters.

With more than 90 percent of votes counted by the Electoral Court, Partido Nacional candidate Álvaro Delgado and the Broad Front leftist candidate Yamandu Orsi will face off in the second round of the presidential election on November 24. Upon learning the preliminary results of the election process, candidate Orsi asked his supporters for “one last push” ahead of the second round.

“Let’s go all out for that final effort over these next 27 days, more motivated than ever, standing taller than ever, comrades,” Orsi declared, voicing his support for “healthy and respectful electoral competition.”

Orsi celebrated the preliminary results with thousands of his supporters, affirming that his political group, the Frente Amplio, was the most voted party in the elections.

The text reads, “The Broad Front (FA) with Yamandu Orsi and the National Party with Alvaro Delgado, will contest the second round of the presidential elections in Uruguay on November 24.

Meanwhile, ruling party candidate Álvaro Delgado asserted that the governing coalition was the most-voted political project in the election, highlighting that the coalition forces would build towards another victory on November 24.

Delgado addressed his supporters accompanied by the candidates from the coalition’s other parties: Andrés Ojeda (Colorado Party), Guido Manini Ríos (Cabildo Abierto), Pablo Mieres (Partido Independiente), and Eduardo Lust (Partido Constitucional Ambientalista).

“Look, the polls have spoken; Uruguay expressed itself through democracy and freedom. Tonight, Uruguay has shown that the coalition is the most-voted political project in our country,” declared the Partido Nacional candidate.

With 91.13 percent of votes counted, Broad Front has accumulated 949,983 ballots of the 2,217,473 cast, National Party has 592,677, and Colorado Party has 353,422.
