After none of the eleven candidates in the previous round surpassed 50 percent of the votes, the two most-voted candidates advanced to the runoff.

The voting will take place from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM local time, and by around 9:30 PM, consulting firms are expected to present their first projections. In the first round, held on October 27, Orsi secured 43.9 percent of the votes, far ahead of Alvaro Delgado, who garnered 26.7 percent of the ballots.

However, the latest polls revealed a very close race between the opposition Broad Front candidate and the candidate from the ruling coalition, which includes the Colorado Party, Open Cabildo, the Independent Party, and the Constitutional Environmentalist Party.

On Friday, five days after Delgado and Orsi faced off in a mandatory debate where they presented their main proposals for the 2025-2030 term, the South American country entered an electoral blackout. As a result, political parties are prohibited from conducting any campaign propaganda activities.

In this second electoral round, Delgado and Orsi will go head-to-head in the contest to secure the Presidency for the 2025-2030 term.

A veterinarian by profession, Delgado will seek to claim the seat currently held by Lacalle Pou, under whom he served as Secretary of the Presidency from 2020 to 2023. Previously, he was a member of Parliament from 2005 to 2015 and a senator from 2015 to 2020.

For his part, Orsi, a history teacher, is vying for the Presidency after serving as mayor of the province of Canelones from 2015 to 2020. He also held the position of general secretary in the same province from 2005 to 2015.
