On March 25, US warplanes reportedly launched around two dozen airstrikes across several areas of northern Yemen, according to Yemeni media outlets.
Al-Masirah TV reported that 17 airstrikes targeted Saada Governorate, with additional strikes hitting the Sufyan district and at least five more aimed at the Sahar district. Notably, earlier on Tuesday, US airstrikes struck the Al-Rasool al-Azam cancer hospital in Saada for the second time within a few days, leading to significant destruction of the facility.
A security source informed SABA news agency that this repeated targeting of the hospital has raised serious concerns about civilian safety and humanitarian conditions in the region.
In response to these attacks, the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) announced on March 26 that they had targeted US warships in the Red Sea. The YAF stated, “In response to the American aggression against our country … and within the framework of confronting escalation with escalation … the missile force, unmanned air force, and naval forces carried out a joint military operation targeting enemy warships in the Red Sea,” specifically mentioning the US aircraft carrier Truman as a launch point for aggression against Yemen.
The confrontation reportedly lasted several hours. Additionally, the YAF claimed to have targeted “military targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied Jaffa area” using drones. This marked the first Yemeni drone attack on Israel since hostilities resumed following a collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza.
The renewed US airstrike campaign began earlier this month as a reaction to YAF’s decision to reimpose a ban on Israeli shipping routes in strategic waterways following Israel’s actions during the Gaza conflict. On March 15, US airstrikes on Sanaa resulted in at least 51 deaths and around 100 injuries. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that these operations have successfully targeted key leaders of the Ansarallah movement, which is allied with YAF.
Since Israel intensified its military operations against Gaza on March 18—resulting in over 700 fatalities—the YAF has conducted six ballistic missile attacks aimed at Tel Aviv, further escalating tensions in an already volatile region.
