Former United States President Jimmy Carter, elected for the period 1977 to 1981, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, died this Sunday at age 100.
“Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” the Carter Center simply said in a post in the social media platform X, former Twitter.
The Center said they will “provide updates about ceremonies and activities to honor the life of President Carter as they become available here and soon on the official Carter Family Tribute Site.”
“There will be public observances in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., followed by a private interment in Plains, Georgia. The final arrangements for President Carter’s state funeral, including all public events and motorcade routes, are still pending,” detailed the Center about the funeral honors.
Carter, who was in palliative care at home and voted in the last election, had been treated for an aggressive form of melanoma-like skin cancer with tumors that had spread to the liver and brain.
