In a message posted on his Telegram channel, Gil reaffirmed Caracas’ commitment to the Colombian people and government.

“Venezuela, true to its commitment to brotherhood and solidarity with the Colombian people and government, will always be willing to provide the humanitarian support needed to the population that is repeatedly affected by the scourge of war in the brother country,” the FM said.

Gil assured that Venezuela will always be ready to provide the necessary humanitarian support to those suffering from the war in Colombia.

On Thursday, Colombian authorities reported clashes between the National Liberation Army (ELN) and FARC dissidents in the Catatumbo region.

In response, the Colombian Army announced the deployment of 300 soldiers to the area, where the security crisis has left several dead, including peace-makers and civilians, generating a humanitarian crisis on the border with Venezuela, affected by illegal armed groups and drug trafficking.

According to the governor of Norte de Santander, William Villamizar, more than 30 deaths and more than 20 injuries have been reported.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed the evacuation of threatened personnel and peace signatories with the support of the Army.
