The Bolivarian president awarded Mitchell the Order of the Liberators in its First Class with Sword, as a gesture of friendship and the shared struggle for a multipolar world order.
“This visit marks the consolidation and strengthening of the deep bilateral relations between Venezuela and Grenada, which began in 1977,” said the Grenadian prime minister, who highlighted collaboration with Venezuela in areas of common interest, such as energy.
Mitchell emphasized that Grenada and Venezuela have always enjoyed cordial, fraternal, and friendly relations, which have resulted in win-win relations between the two countries.
“It is a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. We have cooperated in both difficult and good times. We are pleased to commit today more than ever to the strengthening of this relationship,” he said.
For his part, Maduro emphasized that Mitchell’s visit encourages continued progress toward shared development with mutual benefits and toward an increasingly powerful union in the Caribbean region.
“We had a long conversation, sharing the vision and the challenges facing the region in the years to come. We thoroughly reviewed the agreements, which are plans for joint action between the governments and peoples of Grenada and Venezuela,” the Bolivarian leader said.
Maduro and Mitchell reviewed initiatives such as food production through the AgroALBA project, which includes the development of fisheries, exports to China, and the complete elimination of tariffs that Venezuela previously imposed on Grenada.
The Venezuelan president also highlighted Grenada’s progress in the tourism sector and the development of energy security through PetroCaribe, an initiative that has been subject to U.S. sanctions.
Also present at the meeting held in Caracas were Grenadian Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Andall and Grenada’s ambassador to Venezuela, Hassan Hadeed.
On the Venezuelan side, attendees included Agriculture Minister Julio Heredia, Fisheries Minister Juan Loyo, ALBA Bank President Raul Li Causi, and the Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza.
