Venezuela Accuses US of Forcing Chevron to Return Crude Shipments

Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has publicly accused the United States government of causing American oil giant Chevron to return crude shipments to state-owned PDVSA. In her statement, Rodríguez asserted that Washington’s economic sanctions have severely restricted Chevron’s financial operations, compelling the company to abandon these shipments.

Venezuela Maintains Oil Exports Despite Sanctions

Rodríguez emphasized that the returned crude is being successfully redirected to international markets, demonstrating what she called the “resilience” of Venezuela’s oil industry. She stressed PDVSA’s commitment to honoring contractual obligations with transnational companies, declaring that “Venezuela has laws, and they are respected.”

The vice president framed this as a sovereignty issue, stating “The US will not prevent our country from working and progressing,” while expressing confidence in Venezuela’s oil and gas production future. Her remarks come despite the 2020 termination of the US-Venezuela oil agreement under the Trump administration and ongoing pressure on Chevron.

Political Context of Oil Dispute

Rodríguez’s statements reflect the Venezuelan government’s persistent stance against international sanctions and its determination to maintain oil operations despite external pressures. The speech underscores ongoing tensions between Venezuela and the US regarding energy policy and economic restrictions.
