On Monday, the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, led an important working meeting with the Bicentennial Commission of the Battle of Ayacucho.
The central objective of the meeting was to define the commemorative path for this historic event that marked a milestone in the struggle for independence in Latin America.
It is worth noting that the Battle of Ayacucho was one of the final confrontations of the Spanish American Wars of Independence, where the royalist army faced a coalition of independence fighters from various regions, including European mercenaries.
On December 9, 1824, in the Pampa de Quinua, Peru, at an altitude of 3,500 meters, the Battle of Ayacucho took place, which ended the Viceroyalty of Peru and deposed its last viceroy, General José de la Serna e Hinojosa.
During the meeting, authorities discussed various areas that will be fundamental for the commemoration, including cultural, communicational, educational, and historical aspects. The importance of highlighting and rescuing the memory of Ayacucho was emphasized, not only as a military event but also as a symbol of the struggle for freedom and sovereignty of Latin American peoples.
It was also highlighted that this commemoration should serve as a space to reflect on the values of independence and unity promoted by the heroes of the homeland. Through this initiative, Venezuela aims not only to remember its history but also to strengthen national identity and unity among Latin American peoples in the current context.
