Maria Corina Machado’s motorcyclist, who had allegedly been mortally wounded, was hiding in a hotel in Caracas
On Monday, the Venezuelan Interior Ministry refuted false information about the health status of Roalmi Cabeza, a motorcyclist who transported far-right activist Maria Corina Machado following an opposition protest on January 9.

Last week, Machado had alleged that her motorcyclist was detained by Venezuelan police officers after being shot in his leg. This fake news, however, was debunked through the presentation of photographs of the supposed victim of police brutality.
Machado’s deliberately unfounded and false claims prompted statements from former presidents and foreign governments suggesting the need for intervention in Venezuela to bring about a change in government. Among these figures was former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe, a far-right politician linked to paramilitary crimes and drug trafficking.
Venezuelan authorities located Roalmi Cabeza unharmed in a hotel in Caracas, where he had been hiding under Machado’s instructions. The motorcyclist has been detained.
The Cabeza case is connected to the events of January 9, when Venezuelan far-right forces and their transnational allies were allegedly planning violent acts to destabilize the country ahead of President Nicolas Maduro’s inauguration.
On that day, Machado participated without incident in a march in eastern Caracas, where she delivered a speech rallying her supporters.
Venezuelan authorities confirmed that Cabeza will be brought before the courts to face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and the fabrication of false accusations, offenses committed with the intent to sow unrest in the country.
