In a forceful speech on Tuesday, during the inauguration of the House of Grandparents in Caracas,Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro reaffirmed his country’s independence from U.S. pressure. “The empire is aggressive—that’s their problem, and they’re the ones who lose. We have sought civilized relations based on respect. Venezuela is a free country; we are no one’s colony,” the leader declared during the inauguration of the House of Grandparents of the Homeland in Caracas.
Maduro denounced the campaign of hostility by the U.S. government, insisting that Venezuela no longer takes orders from foreign powers. “That era is over—the time when they gave orders to our country in English. We knew that time, but it’s finished. We are free!” he proclaimed. The Venezuelan president emphasized his government’s desire for relations based on mutual respect but without submission to external interests.
Denunciation of Persecution Against Venezuelan Migrants
During his speech, Maduro also addressed the situation of Venezuelan migrants in the U.S. and El Salvador, whom he described as victims of persecution and kidnapping. “We have 238 missing migrants, kidnapped in the United States and handed over to a Nazi-style concentration camp in a Salvadoran prison,” he claimed. Maduro accused the “fascist far-right” of promoting a plan of aggression against Venezuelans abroad.
The president announced that his government is pursuing legal measures to secure the release of affected nationals, including filing habeas corpus petitions in Salvadoran courts. “We are exhausting all legal avenues,” he said, while calling on the United Nations (UN) to intervene and protect the human rights of migrants.
Venezuela Maintains Its Sovereign Stance
In closing, the president reiterated that Venezuela will not yield to external pressures and will continue defending its sovereignty. “Let them keep attacking the world if they want, but here we are free and will not obey orders from any empire,” he concluded, reinforcing his anti-imperialist stance and resistance to U.S. policies.
With these statements, President Maduro made clear that his government will maintain a firm position on the international stage while continuing to denounce what he sees as foreign interference against Venezuela and its diaspora.
