The statement also criticizes Guyana’s increasing militarization, driven by its “obsessive interest in jeopardizing the stability and peace of the Latin American and Caribbean region,” with the backing of the United States Southern Command.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has issued a strong rejection of the accusations made by the government of Guyana, led by its Foreign Minister Hugh Hilton Todd, who has promoted what Venezuela describes as a “vile fabrication” regarding an alleged attack on Guyanese troops.

In an official statement, the Venezuelan government denounces this as a “fake news” operation, aimed at spreading a hostile and misleading narrative to divert attention from Guyana’s violations of international law in the Essequibo region.

Venezuela maintains that, following a preliminary investigation, the evidence indicates that groups linked to illegal mining, operating in the Essequibo region under the protection of the Guyanese military and police, were the ones who suffered an attack, resulting in injuries. The wounded are currently receiving medical attention in Venezuelan territory.

The statement also criticizes Guyana’s increasing militarization, driven by its “obsessive interest in jeopardizing the stability and peace of the Latin American and Caribbean region,” with the backing of the United States Southern Command.

In this context, the Venezuelan government demands that the Guyanese Foreign Minister cease what it calls aggressions and lies, urging instead for direct negotiations between the parties, as established in the 1966 Geneva Agreement.

Finally, Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to peace and the restoration of its sovereign rights over the Essequibo region, emphasizing its adherence to international law and the historical truth in this territorial dispute.
