The Venezuelan government described the action as “a clear lawfare operation designed to attack a legitimate and sovereign government.”

In this sense, the communiqué rejects the political use of the Argentine judicial system as an instrument of intervention by agents alienated to Western hegemonism and anti-Sandinista opposition sectors.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry denounced the use of the principle of universal jurisdiction for political purposes in search of “undermining the sovereignty of independent States”.

It further noted that such actions seek to justify the imposition of unilateral coercive measures in the name of alleged human rights principles.

Such maneuvering, the Foreign Ministry said, violates the fundamental principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States enshrined in international law.

“We reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo in their struggle for sovereignty, social justice and self-determination,” the statement said.
