Requested by the right-wing U.S. elite, this bill adds to over 930 coercive measures imposed against the Venezuelan people.
On Tuesday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil categorically rejected the approval of a bill shamelessly nicknamed “Bolivar Act” by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Officially named the “Banning Operations and Leases with Illegitimate Venezuelan Authoritarian Regime Act,” this bill prohibits the U.S. government from contracting individuals or entities with commercial ties to the Venezuelan state.
It also establishes the same prohibition for any Venezuelan government succeeding President Nicolas Maduro’s administration “that is not recognized as legitimate by the United States.”
The law was introduced by two Florida representatives, Republican Mike Waltz and Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who seek to maintain and expand sanctions against the Venezuelan people. Below is the statement released by the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the approval, by the House of Representatives of the United States of America, of a bill shamelessly given the acronym ‘Bolivar,’ an insult to the greatest genius in the history of the Americas, who dedicated his life to defeating imperialism and colonialism — values diametrically opposed to those represented in this new criminal attack.
This measure seeks to hinder economic relations and cooperation between Venezuela and the United States across various fields, in blatant violation of the United Nations Charter. It was requested by the fascist right-wing elite and adds to over 930 unilateral and extraterritorial coercive measures imposed against the Venezuelan people and even the U.S. business community itself.
This new onslaught is destined to fail, like all the absurd ventures that have entangled the U.S. government, including the bizarre support for Juan Guaido in 2019.
Venezuela calls on the United Nations bodies responsible for human rights and the international community, especially Latin American and Caribbean nations, to condemn this illegal act, which violates national sovereignty and will once again fail in its attempt to subjugate the Bolivarian people.
The people will continue to overcome each aggression and demonstrate their courage and determination to advance along the path to prosperity alongside their revolutionary government.”
