Last week, Venezuelan authorities temporarily closed its borders in anticipation of potential violent acts organized by the transnational far-right in connection with the inauguration of President Nicolas Maduro.
“What we all want is a country at peace. We all want peace for Venezuela and peace for Colombia. We want no more violence or threats coming from Colombia,” Bernal stated.
The Tachira governor and other high-ranking Venezuelan officials condemned statements made by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, who recently called for an international military intervention against Venezuela.
“We want the infamous Alvaro Uribe to stop concocting invasions. Nobody here wants war or invasions. We all want work, peace, and prosperity,” Bernal emphasized.
From the border crossing, the Tachira governor invited residents to participate in the International San Sebastian Fair. “We have taken all preventive and deterrent measures and have vigorously countered the madness coming from Colombia,” he assured.
The Commander of the Los Andes Strategic Defense Region, Gen. Jose Martinez, highlighted that his command remains permanently deployed alongside the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and citizen security agencies across the 164.7 kilometers of border.
“Venezuelans are prepared to give their lives to ensure the sovereignty of their nation,” said Michell Valladares, commander of the Tachira Integral Defense Operational Zone.
