Venezuela Temporarily Closes Land Border With Colombia

This is a preventive measure against possible terrorist actions on the day of President Maduro’s inauguration.

On Friday, Freddy Bernal, the governor of the state of Tachira, confirmed the closure of the land border between Venezuela and Colombia as a preventive measure against potential terrorist actions on the day President Nicolas Maduro is sworn in for the 2025–2031 term.

“We have information about an international conspiracy to disrupt the peace of Venezuelans,” he said, specifying that the border closure would remain in effect until Monday, January 13.

“Rest assured that we have absolute control of the state and will guarantee peace and tranquility for all people under any circumstances,” he added, asking for understanding from businesses and citizens who regularly cross the border.

Colombia and Venezuela share a 2,219-kilometer border, where seven Colombian departments and four Venezuelan states meet.
