Far-right figures threatened to travel to Venezuela on the day of the presidential inauguration despite not being invited.
On Monday, Diosdado Cabello, the Minister of Policy, Citizen Security, and Peace, analyzed the situation in Venezuela just days before the inauguration of President-elect Nicolas Maduro, emphasizing that authorities will prosecute anyone attempting to disrupt the nation’s tranquility on January 10.

Previously, Latin American far right figures, many with records of corruption and ties to drug trafficking, announced plans to travel to Venezuela on that date despite not being invited by the authorities.
“We will be waiting for them as what they truly are: invaders! They will be detained and prosecuted because Venezuela deserves respect! None of these criminals has the authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the Bolivarian nation,” Cabello warned.
Specifically, the Venezuelan minister stated that far-right politician Edmundo Gonzalez, who is funded by extremist opposition groups, will be arrested upon entering the country if he dares to act with impunity.
“The Venezuelan people are waiting for Gonzalez because he is a mercenary who does not love this country. Alongside Leopoldo Castillo, he led death squads in El Salvador against social and religious leaders. His entire life, he has been a CIA agent,” Cabello recalled.
“The far-right groups had no electoral plans. Their plans were centered on inciting violence,” the Bolivarian minister said, referencing the terrorist acts that followed the July 2024 presidential elections, in which Venezuelans re-elected Nicolas Maduro as their president for the 2025–2031 term.
During a press conference, Cabello presented accusations and photographic evidence of the capture of Venezuelan and foreign mercenaries who, with support from the CIA, the DEA, and Spanish intelligence, had been trained to carry out terrorist acts.
“On January 10, President Maduro will be sworn in. The opposition will not prevent it, just as they failed to stop the National Assembly from being installed yesterday,” Cabello stated, stressing that conservative threats did not stop Venezuelans from peacefully enjoying their time at the beaches over the weekend.
