The accession of this South American nation to the BRICS would deepen its international trade.

On Friday, the Venezuelan ambassador to Moscow, Jesus Salazar, announced that his country received an invitation to participate in the BRICS summit, which will be held in the city of Kazan, in the Republic of Tatarstan, in October.

“The Russian Federation invited us to participate not only in the Kazan summit but also in all the activities,” he said, recalling that Venezuela had submitted a request to join this cooperation agreement.

“At the next BRICS summit, Venezuela will be present in its role as an observer country and candidate for membership,” said the Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe, Coromoto Godoy.

During the BRICS+ Foreign Ministers’ meeting, held in June in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil emphasized that his country is making steady progress towards joining the economic and commercial integration mechanism.

“We are doing it, and we will achieve it: Venezuela is going to the BRICS… The news is fabulous. Imagine Venezuela in the BRICS and connected with the new world. We, who have resisted sanctions and aggression, are flourishing. Venezuela is being reborn both internally and externally,” he said.

The accession of Venezuela to the BRICS would deepen its international trade and increase global oil reserves from 8.7 percent to 26.2 percent and global gas reserves from 25.2 percent to 28.6 percent. Meanwhile, Venezuela can counter the U.S. blockade by accessing new forms of financing.

The BRICS core members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. This year, its scope was expanded with the inclusion of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran.
