Relatives, friends and members of the Political High Command of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) took part in the event, alongside supporters and members of revolutionary movements who mobilized to the site.
The activity commemorates the death of Commander Chávez, who passed away on March 5, 2013 in Caracas after battling illness, ending nearly 14 years as president and a political period that reshaped Venezuela’s contemporary history.
Supporters gathered at the Cuartel de la Montaña, a location with strong symbolic meaning for the Bolivarian process and the Venezuelan revolutionary movement. The site now houses the mausoleum where the Bolivarian leader is buried.
Participants described the vigil as part of the country’s annual remembrance of Chávez and the political project associated with the Bolivarian Revolution.
For many, the commemoration also recalls the anti-imperialist vision and Latin American integration promoted by the Venezuelan leader during his years in government.
The gathering brought together members of the revolutionary and Chavista movements, who paid tribute to the legacy of the commander whose political project continues to shape Venezuela’s political landscape.
