‘We are in a moment of revolutionary offensive, building the new democracy,’ President Maduro pointed out.

On August 25, Venezuelans are expected to participate in the second great popular consultation through which communities will choose development projects to be funded by the national government. These elections will be held in 4,505 communal circuits.

The great popular consultation is a form of organization supported by the Venezuelan constitution and laws, which establish that initiatives related to social welfare selected by vote will be directly funded by the central government and managed by the communities. On Monday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on the entire population to participate in the upcoming Sunday electoral event.

“We are in a moment of revolutionary offensive, building the new democracy. To continue improving your community, you have the opportunity to participate in the second popular consultation of 2024, starting at 8 am on Sunday,” he said, reminding that there will be four such electoral events each year.

During the TV program “Con Maduro +,” Vanessa Perez, a member of the “Revolution’s Five Strengths” commune, which is located in the Montes municipality, highlighted that the first consultation held on April 21 allowed her community to install drinking water in the homes of two communal councils.

“Thanks to the project being implemented in our area, we are bringing this service to all families. This is an achievement for us and for the entire country because it is the people helping the people. It is the people executing,” declared Perez.

Freddy Espinoza, a member of the “Mandarine Route” commune in the state of Miranda, said that the people in his communal circuit prioritized road rehabilitation because a section of the road had been unusable for 12 years, making it difficult to transport mandarins to the markets.

Before prioritizing that project, the people held five community assemblies where citizens discussed the actions each person in the communal circuit would take to ensure that the funding was used effectively. “We started the process and were surprised by the large number of people who collaborated to achieve the road project,” Espinoza said.
