Venezuela’s Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, arrived in Cali, Colombia, on Monday to participate in the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP16).
At this event, Gil will present the challenges and advancements of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela regarding biodiversity. “On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, we have come to Cali to participate in this crucial event.
“We will showcase Venezuela’s achievements and goals in biodiversity conservation, particularly focusing on the Amazon basin,” declared the minister.
Additionally, Gil met with his Colombian counterpart, Luis Gilberto Murillo, to discuss common issues and interests affecting both nations.
The Foreign Ministry also announced the arrival of Bolivia’s Vice President, David Choquehuanca Céspedes, who was welcomed at Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport by the Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, Paola Vásquez.
Choquehuanca joins other international leaders arriving in Cali for the high-level segment of COP16.
COP16 is a key event under the Convention on Biological Diversity, which was signed at the Rio de Janeiro Summit in 1992 and ratified by all UN member countries except for the United States and Vatican City.
