Venezuelan Government Delivers 1,275 Tons of Aid to People Affected by Beryl

So far, 21,000 inhabitants of Cumanacoa have been assisted by the national authorities.

On Tuesday, the Venezuelan Civil Protection reported that President Nicolas Maduro’s administration delivered 1,275 tons of food, medicine, potable water, and other supplies to citizens affected by the overflow of a river in the state of Sucre.

This happened last week as a consequence of Hurricane Beryl’s passage. So far, 21,000 people from the town of Cumanacoa have been assisted by the Bolivarian authorities. The Interior Ministry reported that 23 flights have rescued 18 people who were in isolated and hard-to-reach communities.

Civil Protection added that 1,240 citizens have received general medical care. Among them were 260 children who were evaluated by pediatricians. The Maduro administration also delivered 1,850 medications, 42 canes, 8,300 diapers, and 55 crutches to the affected population.

This week, authorities will conduct a census to verify the damage to homes and other buildings in Cumanacoa. On Monday, it was also announced the creation of a one-million-dollar fund to assist those affected by Hurricane Beryl.

The text reads, “At this time we are leaving for Cumanacoa to visit the brothers and sisters from that fighting town, which has had to live through very hard times these days but will rise strong to continue fighting. We are sending about 10 tons of food: flour, beans, coffee, and other items. This is a contribution from the Communes of Venezuela, which express their solidarity and make this shipment with a lot of love. Every day, President Nicolas Maduro gives us instructions to serve Cumanacoa.”

“Due to the impact of Beryl in Cumanacoa, President Maduro created a fund to support the economic sectors affected by the rains and river overflow with financing, without any conditions,” said Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez on the social network X.

The flooding in Cumanacoa caused the death of at least three people, the displacement of about 1,440 people to shelters, and affected nearly 8,000 homes.

A week ago, Hurricane Beryl reached the maximum category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale while passing through the Caribbean, where it caused death and destruction. On Monday, Beryl decreased its force and became a tropical storm. However, as it passed through Texas, it has left eight dead so far.
