Venezuelan Military Destroys 84 Illegal Mining Structures

On Thursday, Domingo Hernandez, the strategic commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), confirmed that Venezuelan military forces destroyed 84 structures used for illegal mining in the southern part of the country.

This occurred during the deployment of Operation Caura 2024, which focuses on locating and dismantling illegal settlements related to mining in jungle areas.
Hernandez explained that the dismantled structures served as clandestine lodgings and logistical depots for environmental depredation and open-pit mining in a national security area.
The FANB commander showed photographs and videos of the military deployment and the destruction of these structures but did not specify if the military detained the illegal miners during the operation.
On Tuesday, Heranandez reported the seizure of 400 liters of fuel, type diesel, in a sector of the Caura National Park, in the state of Bolivar, near the border with Brazil.
In this national park, FANB members detected a “floating structure” made of wood with six engines, in which 400 liters of diesel and 28 liters of oil were stored.
The Venezuelan military seized seven suction turbines, 250 meters of plastic hose, two turbines with high-pressure motor pumps, 120 meters of carpet, and other logistical materials.
In March, Hernandez reported that over 7,000 illegal miners were evicted from the states of Amazonas and Bolivar. Currently, 2,500 FANB members are deployed conducting operations to control illegal activities in national parks, forest reserves, and watersheds.
