“We, mayors elected in 2021 with the support of the Venezuelan opposition, have decided to step forward to protect the population that trusted our proposal to lead the destinies of our municipalities. Venezuela is heading towards a period of stability, peace, and economic prosperity, making us one of the safest countries with the highest economic growth on the continent,” said Xulme Avila, the mayor of San Juan de Los Morros, who read a statement on behalf of the opposition mayors.
“That is why we denounce and reject any attempt to return to useless diatribe and violence as instruments to obtain political positions and power. Violence has already done a lot of harm. Many families were left grieving and in sadness due to the cunning calculations of a few who deviate from our commitment to serving our voters,” she added.
“Consequently, we announce that we have decided to declare ourselves independent of any political party and freely and responsibly support President Nicolas Maduro’s candidacy for the elections on July 28, 2024,” Avila pointed out.
“Beyond any political and ideological positions, Venezuela requires agreements and common plans allowing us to build a future where everyone has a place. A future with peace, stability, education, growth, and employment… Let’s go with Maduro for a better and safer future!” she stressed.
Rodriguez praised the attitude of the opposition mayors, among whom are Juan Carlos Zamora, mayor of Tinaco in the state of Cojedes, and Adriana Azuaje, mayor of El Obispo in the state of Barinas.
“We see this as a brave gesture… Although we may think differently, what matters here is Venezuela… What’s important is taking care of Venezuelan peace,” the head of the Our Venezuela Campaign command stressed.
