The U.S. agency financed NGOs to destabilize, generate war, and assassinate presidents, legislator Eekhout recalled.
On Tuesday, Jorge Rodriguez, the president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, led an extraordinary parliamentary session in which lawmakers strongly condemned the funding provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to far-right groups.

“USAID has financed non-governmental organizations to destabilize, generate war, and assassinate presidents,” emphasized legislator Blanca Eekhout.
“They developed an absolutely criminal scheme. Their entire plan was aimed at destabilizing the country,” she added, highlighting that the illegal actions remained hidden behind NGOs supposedly dedicated to human rights protection and press freedom.
Legislator Jose Brito condemned USAID funds and demanded that far-right politicians accused of corruption return to Venezuela to face justice. He also pointed out that evidence suggests far-right politician Juan Guaido, who is currently a fugitive from justice, was the one providing recommendations to U.S. agencies regarding which NGOs were eligible to receive foreign assistance.
National Assembly President Rodriguez recalled that U.S.-backed narratives attempt to portray Venezuelan migrants as members of the criminal group Tren de Aragua, which President Nicolas Maduro’s administration successfully eradicated from national territory.
“Whether they like it or not, Venezuela is currently the safest country on this continent, and no one can deny that reality!” he stressed, making an implicit reference to Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who questioned the prevailing security levels in Venezuelan territory.
“Not a single Venezuelan would have been forced to migrate if they had not subjected Venezuela to 962 sanctions, a ruthless economic blockade, or the plundering of the people’s assets,” Rodriguez said, alluding to the collusion between the U.S. government and the Venezuelan far right.
