The Chair of the National Assembly announced that at least nine elections will take place this year.

On Thursday, representatives of Venezuelan political organizations proposed dates for holding a referendum on constitutional reform and parliamentary, regional, and local elections.

Three main elections will take place: the election of members of the National Assembly, the election of governors and their legislative councils, and the election of mayors and their municipal councils.

Venezuelans will also participate in six direct popular consultations to define development, youth and cultural projects in the country’s 5,297 community circuits. For all these electoral processes, the participation of 38 legally registered political parties is expected.

On Tuesday, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced that at least nine elections will take place in 2025. He explained that the proposed dates will be presented to the National Electoral Council (CNE), the institution responsible for organizing and convening elections in Venezuela.

The text reads, “Communal projects in Venezuela. Elections in each commune for approval by the people on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Public services, roads, educational infrastructure, etc.” The text in the image reads, “Peace has been inaugurated”

Today, the Parliament’s Special Committee on the Review of Electoral Rules and Laws was presented with dozens of possible election dates, ranging from June to December.

“Individuals who have promoted unilateral coercive measures and other punitive actions cannot participate in the elections,” reminded Pedro Carreño, a legislator from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

This prohibition stems from the Liberator Simon Bolivar Act, which establishes conditions for ineligibility, including having requested or supported international sanctions against Venezuela and its authorities.
