The Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged opposition leader María Corina Machado with promoting and supporting Law HR 825, which was passed last Monday by the United States House of Representatives. This law seeks to intensify the blockade and sanctions against Venezuela.
In a statement, the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office argues that the law also attempts to discredit the legacy of Liberator Simon Bolivar, which, according to them, seriously violates the Constitution and national sovereignty.
Therefore, it has been decided to open an investigation against Machado, accusing her of supporting a “legal complaint” that results in “terrible criminal acts against the Venezuelan people.”
The Prosecutor’s Office points out that Machado’s public pronouncements regarding this law involve her in serious crimes.
This is provided for in Article 132 of the Criminal Code; conspiracy with foreign countries, as outlined in Article 128 of the Penal Code; and association for delinquency, as stipulated in Article 37 of the Law Against Organized Crime.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, as the director of the investigation against the ultra-right opposition, reaffirms its commitment to ensuring justice in the country.
In response to the provocations of the U.S. government, which passed Law 825, the National Assembly of Venezuela recently approved, in its first discussion, the Simon Bolivar Liberator Organic Law. This law aims to combat the imperialist blockade and defend the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
President Nicolas Maduro expressed his rejection of the “criminal attempt” to associate Bolivar’s name with a law that he considers a dirty and criminal aggression against Venezuela, approved by the U.S. Parliament.
In this context, he called on the Venezuelan people to unite in the fight against this legislation, which he refers to as the “Law of Garbage,” urging the National Assembly to accelerate the process of passing the Liberator Organic Law against the imperialist blockade.
