On Monday, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced the release of 110 people who had been imprisoned following the acts of violence recorded after the elections on July 28, 2024. This decision, made in coordination with the Judiciary, allows those individuals to access procedural benefits.

“As a good faith actor, the Attorney General’s Office remains vigilant and committed to continuing its work in defense of peace, justice, and human rights,” Saab said, adding that these releases are part of the ongoing process of verifying investigations carried out by his institution.

Immediately after the 2024 presidential elections, the far-right Venezuelan opposition unleashed a wave of violence across the country in an attempt to create conditions to destabilize the constitutional order.

In this context, more than 2,400 people were arrested for their possible involvement in acts of vandalism against public and private property.

Since 2024, the Attorney General’s Office has emphasized that these releases reflect the authorities’ commitment to human rights and dialogue in Venezuela. So far, 2,006 people have been released.
