Citizens responsible for actions of sabotage against public services will be punished with the maximum penalty.

On Wednesday, Venezuela’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced that his office will investigate the sabotage against the Angostura Bridge, where unknown criminals attempted to collapse this public infrastructure by cutting some of its cables.

Through social media, Saab warned that citizens responsible for actions of sabotage against public services “will be punished with the maximum penalty.”

The Attorney General assigned the Fifth Prosecutor’s Office of Bolivar and the 74th National Prosecutor’s Office, both of which have jurisdiction over organized crime, to investigate and sanction those responsible for acts of sabotage committed on the Angostura Bridge.

Previously, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez denounced that the far-right opposition had planned to bring down the bridge connecting the states of Anzoategui and Bolivar with the aim of causing unrest among the population before the presidential elections on July 28.

“We have detected and uncovered a serious plan to bring down the first Angostura Bridge over the Orinoco River,” she said and also reiterated the allegations of plans to attack national electrical system facilities.

Rodriguez explained that the saboteurs cut some of the thick and strong wires that hold the bridge. As a result, the authorities decided to divert cargo transport traffic to the Orinoquia Bridge, which is also over the Orinoco River.

Through social networks, community journalist Barry Cartaya recalled that the Venezuelan far-right also carried out an attack on the Amuay refinery in 2012, when its candidates were losing the race for the presidency. “They seek to repeat the “Amuay Tragedy,” he said, referring to an attack that left 42 dead.
