Previously, the U.S. Treasury Department accused Bolivarian authorities of “falsely” proclaiming President Nicolas Maduro as the winner of the July 28 presidential elections.
Supreme Court President Caryslia Rodriguez read a statement on behalf of her colleagues, rejecting Washington’s “interventionist actions” in Venezuela’s internal affairs.
“This is a new colonialist action. We will not succumb or bow to foreign forces. Venezuela and the representatives of all public powers have been facing the historic challenge of the threats and external aggressions that have systematically presented themselves over the last decades,” Rodriguez added.
CNE President Elvis Amoroso condemned the “infamous act of interference” by the U.S., claiming it was an attempt “to single out and intimidate a group of Venezuelan public servants.”
He reminded that the U.S. lacks moral authority to evaluate and comment on electoral matters, as it has “one of the World’s most pathetic and obsolete electoral systems, incapable of providing certainty in its results, leaving many doubts in its elections, as has been evident on countless occasions.”
“We demand that the U.S. refrain from involving itself in the internal affairs of Venezuela’s electoral authority, and we urge it to focus on addressing the internal issues of its own country,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, during a press conference on Friday, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby threatened the Maduro administration, demanding it publish the electoral records. “We have issued sanctions. We are not ruling anything out in the future,” he said.
Among the high-ranking Venezuelan officials sanctioned by Washington are Caryslia Rodriguez, the president of the Supreme Court; Rosalba Gil, the president of the Civil Registry Commission of the National Electoral Council; Pedro Infante, the vice president of the National Assembly; magistrates Fanny Marquez, Inocencio Figueroa, Malaquias Gil, and Juan Hidalgo; prosecutor Luis Dueñez; Domingo Hernandez, the strategic operational commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces; and Elio Estrada, the commander of the Bolivarian National Guard.
