Several marches will set off from traditional sites such as the Taxi Driver’s Corner, O’Leary Square, Paguita, Miranda Square, Ali Primera Park, El Calvario Stairs, and Bolivar Square. These marches will head toward the Mountain Barracks, where Commander Chavez’s remains rest.

Today marks 12 years since the death of Hugo Chavez, a leader who marked a before and after in Latin American history. His passing in 2013 left a deep void in the hearts of millions who supported him in his fight for social justice, sovereignty, and the dignity of the people.

Born on July 28, 1954, Chavez was a military officer and politician who promoted the Bolivarian Revolution. His charisma, his connection with the most humble sectors of society, and his vision of a multipolar world distinguished him as a unique leader.

The text reads, “Hugo Chavez’s legacy of love, struggle and dignity lives on in the hearts of the Venezuelan people. His revolutionary spirit accompanies us every day, reminding us that his presence is manifest among us in every effort to build a more just future. Chavez lives!”

His legacy remains present with President Nicolas Maduro, who continues implementing the social policies outlined by Commander Chavez, upholding the rights of the most vulnerable population, and promoting Latin American integration.

“A leader whose legacy of love for the homeland, defense of sovereignty, and pursuit of the unity of the people transformed the history of Venezuela and all of Latin America,” Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil recalled.

“We turned the terrible pain of those hours, days, and years into love, strength, courage, and bravery,” Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said regarding how the people overcame the death of the Bolivarian leader.
