The National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela has asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office to apply the Simón Bolívar Liberator Law to former members of the last Parliament that operated between 2015 and 2021.
This decision is in the context of a letter presented by the president of the parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, in which it is evident that certain opposition leaders addressed themselves to the US chargé d’affaires in Colombia, Francisco Palmieri, requesting financial support for their activities.
Rodríguez emphasized that this communication is clear proof that justifies the immediate application of the law to figures such as Dinora Figuera, Marianela Fernández, and Auristela Vásquez.
According to the President of the Parliament, these actions constitute violations of the Constitution and laws of the country, which could lead to political disqualification and criminal offenses under the Simón Bolívar Law.
The Libertador Simón Bolívar Organic Law, which was sanctioned by the AN on November 28, has been declared constitutional by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.
This legal framework seeks to establish severe sanctions for those politicians who have requested foreign invasions or unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela. The penalties include political disqualification for life and the confiscation of property that these politicians possess in the country.
This legislative action is presented as part of a broader effort to strengthen the constitutional order and protect the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from external interventions.
The adoption and implementation of this law mark a milestone in the Venezuelan political context, reflecting the government’s position in defense of sovereignty and rejection of any form of foreign intervention.
