Despite the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestinian resistance groups, brokered by multiple nations and requiring unimpeded humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, three Gazan police officers were killed on Sunday while securing aid entry points.
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, condemned the Israeli airstrike in Rafah, in southern Gaza, as a serious violation of the ceasefire. According to Gaza’s Interior Ministry, the officers were ensuring the arrival of aid trucks from the Karem Abu Salem crossing when they were killed by Israeli drones.
Hamas labeled the attack as “treacherous” and called on international mediators and the global community to pressure Israel to stop targeting civilian infrastructure and adhere to the negotiated agreements.
The incident follows other alleged violations, including blocking aid convoys and engineering equipment from entering Gaza, as reported by Israeli radio.
Hamas also criticized Israel’s hesitation and delays in negotiations, accusing it of lacking commitment to the ceasefire. Last week, Hamas fighters warned they might postpone the release of Israeli hostages if violations continued, citing incidents like lethal shootings, aid blockades, and restrictions on Gazans’ movement to northern Gaza.
Under the agreement, Hamas releases Israeli hostages every Saturday, while Israel frees hundreds of Palestinian detainees, many of whom reportedly show signs of torture.
However, the violence persists. Last week, Munir al-Bursh, Director General of Gaza’s Health Ministry, reported that at least 118 Palestinian civilians had been killed and 822 injured since the ceasefire took effect on January 19.
