The number of civilians killed in Gaza has reached the alarming figure of 46,788, according to a report from the Gazan Ministry of Health. This occurs in a context where Israeli occupation forces have intensified their attacks on the Palestinian enclave, resulting in the deaths of at least 81 people since the announcement of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

The Gaza Civil Defense agency reported that Israeli forces have carried out bombings in residential neighborhoods since the announcement of the truce, causing the deaths of more than 20 children and 25 women, as well as injuring another 230 people.

Among the affected locations is Al-Zaytoun school, located south of Gaza City, which shelters displaced Palestinians; there, at least four people were killed and dozens injured.

The attacks have also targeted homes in the Al-Daraj neighborhood and in Al-Shuja’iyya, as well as a bombing in Al-Rimal that left at least five dead and more than ten injured.

Despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement confirmed by Qatari Prime Minister Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani to take effect on Sunday, January 19, hostilities by Israel have continued.

This situation raises doubts about the effectiveness of the temporary cessation of hostilities and highlights the severe humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian civilian population. The international community watches with concern as requests for goodwill to halt attacks before the formal start of the ceasefire are ignored.
