The Russian leader emphasized that «Everyone is well aware that today Russia, unfortunately, must defend its interests, defend its people with weapons in hand, but what is happening in the Middle East, what is happening in Palestine, certainly does not go unnoticed by our parties», said Putin.

He noted that Moscow is watching with great pain and concern the humanitarian catastrophe that has developed in the Gaza Strip and is doing everything possible to support the Palestinian people. Thus, Russia sent about 700 tons of cargo to Palestine.

«First, of course, we are concerned about the losses among the civilian population, according to the UN, there are already 40,000 people, mostly women and children», added the Russian leader.

He stressed that Russia has deep and long-standing ties with the Arab world in general and Palestine in particular, which Moscow values highly.

President Putin also recalled that Russia has always advocated a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“And we understand that you and I have a common position, is that the roots of this problem go back to the past and are associated with ignorance of decisions previously taken at the level of international organizations, mainly at the level of the UN, with regard to the formation and creation of an independent Palestinian state,” Putin said.

The Russian view has been formulated for a long time and is that to ensure a stable, reliable and lasting peace in the Middle East it is necessary to implement all UN decisions and first of all create a full Palestinian state, concluded the Russian leader.

Abbas, for his part, noted that Russia and Palestine have decades of friendship: «we feel that Russia is one of the dearest friends of the Palestinian people and, as you said at the beginning of the meeting, we hope that the Palestinian people will get their own state, » he said.

At the same time, the UN failed in its mission to create a Palestinian state, Abbas added.

«The UN, due to pressure from the United States, failed in its mission to provide a solution, adopt a resolution that would implement and guarantee the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people», said the Palestinian leader.

He also rejected the policy of forced relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. «We will not accept the expatriation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem, as happened many times before in the 20th century. We believe that with your support we will achieve our goals, » said Abbas, emphasizing that yes. counting on the Russian support.
