Trump wants Ukraine to provide the U.S. with rare earth minerals in exchange for Washington continuing to deliver assistance.
On Tuesday, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, questioned the accuracy of reports broadcast by Western media claiming that the United States had temporarily suspended arms supplies to Ukraine.

“It is evident that shipments are continuing. In reality, no one has announced a halt to the supply of weapons, so they are ongoing,” he said, referring to what continues to take place under the administration of President Donald Trump.
Yesterday, the Republican politician stated that he wants Ukraine to provide the U.S. with rare earth minerals in exchange for Washington continuing to deliver military assistance. These minerals are crucial for technological innovations ranging from electric vehicles and wind turbines to next-generation aircraft.
“We are telling the Ukrainians that they have very valuable rare earth minerals. We want what we offer to be secured in some way. We want a guarantee,” Trump declared to the press in the Oval Office of the White House, insisting that Ukraine should give something in return for U.S. aid.
Former President Joe Biden “never asked them for money” and only “gave them money,” Trump said, referring to the more than US$180 billion in assistance Ukraine has received since the start of Russia’s special military operation in February 2022.
Regarding such statements, Peskov highlighted that Trump’s proposal for Ukraine to hand over rare earth minerals shows that assistance will no longer be “free” and will have to be paid for on a commercial basis.
“Of course, the best course of action would be not to offer assistance and, consequently, to contribute to resolving the conflict,” the Russian official stressed.
