WHO Calls for the Immediate Removal of Restrictions on Supplies Entering Gaza

The Director General of WHO recalled that “last week only five trucks of medical supplies were allowed into Gaza”.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for the immediate lifting of restrictions on the entry of supplies into Gaza.

“More than 34 of our trucks are waiting at the Al Arish crossing and 850 pallets of medical supplies are waiting to be collected. Another 40 trucks are waiting in Ismailiya, Egypt,” Tedros Adhanom argued.
The agency’s Director General recalled that “last week only five trucks of medical supplies were allowed into Gaza”.
Since Israel’s military action against the Gaza Strip began, “the conflict in October last year, more than 38,000 people have been killed, 88,000 injured and some 10,000 missing”.
“The health of people who have already suffered a lot is threatened by new evacuation orders issued by Israel,” the official said.
He also said that the Al Ahli and Patient Friendly hospitals in northern Gaza have been added to the list of those unable to function because of the fighting in their vicinity. Patients from Al Ahli Hospital have been evacuated to the Indonesian Hospital, which is currently operating at three times its capacity.
