Malhan district, located in the mountainous province of Al Mahweet and approximately 120 kilometres north-west of the capital, Sanaa, is the worst affected area. The floods have caused the destruction of at least seven houses, with their inhabitants being searched intensively, as reported by the official news agency SABA.

Residents of Al Mahweet have reported that landslides blocked several mountain roads, making access to the affected areas difficult due to constant rains.

Heavy rains and floods have been particularly severe in the north and west of the country, where more than 98 people have lost their lives in recent weeks, and dozens of homes, schools and health facilities have been damaged or partially damaged.

According to the UN, more than 38,000 families have been affected by inclement weather in Yemen during the month of August.

This situation adds to the crisis that the country has been facing since 2014, when the armed conflict broke out that has devastated Yemen and left the population vulnerable to natural disasters.
