The informants said on condition of anonymity that the first explosion took place at the gas station in the district of Al Mansura, where they also come to fill their gas bottles for cooking, This led to a major fire and the subsequent explosion of a gas tanker truck parked nearby.

All five people died instantly, while 13 others were taken to nearby hospitals with severe burns, so the death toll could increase, the sources said, They added that emergency teams continue their rescue work in this densely populated area of Aden.

The massive explosions caused the flames to spread to a nearby medical centre and furniture store, so security forces began evacuating nearby buildings to facilitate fire crews.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
