Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility on Sunday for launching two missiles against an Israeli base and Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, in addition to a drone operation in western Israel.

“The missile force of the Yemeni Armed Forces (Houthis) carried out a specific military operation with two ballistic missiles, one of which was a hypersonic Palestine 2 missile, targeting the Sodet Micha base, in the eastern part of the occupied area of Ashdot,” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement.
Sarea said the other Zulfiqar-type missile targeted Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, while they carried out a military operation “against a vital target of the Israeli enemy in the occupied area of Ashkelon, using a drone.”
According to the statement, “both operations have successfully achieved their objectives, closing Ben Gurion Airport for approximately one hour, causing panic and confusion among settlers and forcing millions of them to enter shelters,” without providing further details.
He added that the Houthis will not abandon their support for the Palestinian people and demanded a cessation of attacks against the Gaza Strip.
The Houthi message comes hours after air raid sirens were heard in various cities in central Israel, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the Israeli army said in a statement, which attributed the event to the launch of a missile from Yemen.
The Israeli note said that it was highly probable that the missile had been intercepted after several “attempts,” but did not guarantee it as on previous occasions.
During the ceasefire that Israel unilaterally broke on March 18, the Shiite rebels suspended their military campaign, but resumed it once the Israeli army resumed bombing Gaza, killing hundreds of Palestinians that same morning, according to Health authorities, most of them children.
