The detonation “caused 16 deaths, while several others were seriously injured and admitted to various state government hospitals” In a statement published by local media, one of the police spokesmen, Kenneth Daso, said that the police were trying to find a way out of the situation.
In the attack, “22 people were injured and taken to hospital,” said Aliyu Monguno, a member of the Joint Labour Forces (JTF).
Although the police were unable to detail the circumstances of the events, eyewitnesses and survivors claimed it was an attack with a suicide vest.
North-east Nigeria has been the target of Boko Haram attacks since 2009, a violence that intensified from 2016 with the emergence of ISWAP.
Facing this violence are groups such as the JTF, which is part of several armed civil self-defense groups that help the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against jihadism.
